Opening Festival at Sentralen – Oslo’s New Cultural Hub for Children and Youth

On Saturday, March 5th, and Sunday, March 6th, we invite you to the Opening Festival at Sentralen, Oslo’s new cultural house for children and young people, located at Øvre Slottsgate 3.

From 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the entire building will be buzzing with activity, featuring 15 ongoing events throughout the day—plus a few surprises! The festival is primarily aimed at children and young people aged 3 to 16 years.

Set aside the weekend and create your own path through the festival! Here’s what we have in store:

🎤 Live Karaoke for Kids – Pick a song, get styled backstage, and take the stage with a professional six-piece band—you’re a superstar for five minutes! Styling and good vibes provided by JM Norway.

🎪 New Circus – Circus fun for kids and sporty grown-ups! Try aerial acrobatics, juggling, and stilt walking with circus artist Mathias Ramfelt.

🎶 Beatbox Workshop – JM Norway invites you to learn beatboxing from one of the best—the Icelandic champion Beatur.

💃 Street Dance – Soul Sessions Oslo teaches street dance moves.

🎼 Children’s Singing Session – A cozy sing-along session for kids and parents, led by Anne Karin Sundal-Ask.

🎻 Music Workshop – Play unique instruments from Drivhuset’s collection together with professional musicians from Oslo

Sinfonietta and Cikada.

🎭 "If Clothes Could Tell a Story" – A powerful art installation about violence against children (ages 13+), created by Teater Vildenvei with music by the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra.

🎧 DJ Workshop – Learn to scratch and DJ for street dance with Oh Mama! Crew, hosted by LOUD – Girls’ Band Camp.

📚 Reading Corner – Enjoy engaging storytelling sessions with passionate readers from Foreningen !les.

🎨 Sculpture Building – Help create an artwork to be exhibited at this year’s Miniøya Festival.

🌍 #OurNeighbourhood – Experience music and activities from around the world with Oslo World Music Festival.

👅 Taste School – Learn how to distinguish different flavors with experts from Norsk Smaksskule.

⚽ A-Ball – Play and learn with Aball1.

🧩 Creative Knowledge Play – Let your imagination run wild with large building blocks, puzzles, and fun hands-on activities from Oslo Children’s Museum.

✨ And more surprises! Look out for performances and activities from TEKSTLAB, Panta Rei Dance Theatre, and Oslo Quartet Series.

Outside Sentralen, a heated tent will be set up on both days, where you can pick up your wristband and festival program upon showing your ticket—plus learn about the history of Sentralen.
